Provo is a city in Utah County, Utah. It is located between the eastern coast of Utah Lake and the western mountains of the Wasatch Range. Provo is the principal city of Utah County and is the third largest city in the state of Utah. Provo forms the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Area, which includes about half a million people. Provo is located along Interstate 15 and is about 45 miles away from Salt Lake City. The zip codes of Provo range between 84601-84606.
According to the 2006 census, Provo has a population of more than 116,000 people. The City has a total area of 41.8 square miles (2.1 sq. miles water) with a population density of over 2,600 people per square mile. It is located an elevation of over 4,500 feet above sea level.
The racial demographics of Provo are 88.52% White, 0.46% Black or African American, 0.80% American Indian, 1.83% Asian, 0.84% Pacific Islander, 5.10% from other races, and 2.44% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race make up just over 10% of the population.

Provo is a major hub for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) and hosts some notable facilities of the congregation. The Brigham Young University is operated by the LDS and is America's largest religious university, and has the second-largest private university student enrollment in the nation. Brigham Young University has over 30,000 students, most of them (Mormons) belonging to the LDS. Near the university campus are the Missionary Training Centers of the LDS. The Provo Utah Temple is the 17th constructed and 15th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The 128, 325 square foot temple sits on 17 acres at the base of Rock Canyon and is a landmark of Provo.
Public education in the city is provided by Provo School District, which includes twenty total schools.
Provo offers an enormous amount of recreational opportunities with more than 30 total parks that include facilities and fields for typical sports. The Riverside Country Club is a private club that features 18 hole golf course, swimming, tennis, pro shop and clubhouse. The Reserve At East Bay Golf Course includes 18 hole golf course, 9 hole executive course, driving range, pro shop and restaurant. The Utah Lake State Park is a 96,000 acre area located along Utah Lake and offers a variety of water and land activities.
Provo is home to a large business presence that continues to expand throughout the city's neighborhoods. The 820 North Business Park covers 250 acres and already has operating tenants. The East Bay Business Center sits on 450 acres and includes business research centers and retailers. The Riverwood Business & Retail Park includes research facilities, business offices, restaurants, and a 12-screen movie theater, in a spectacular environment by Mount Timpanogos.
The Provo Town Centre features dinning, entertainment and shopping all under one roof with more than 100 stores, multiple restaurants, and a 16-screen Cinemark movie theater. Downtown Provo also offers great places for shopping, eating and entertainment with over 150 stores and dozens of restaurants in the beautiful streets at the heart of the city.
The Provo Town Centre and Downtown Provo feature some of the best stores, restaurants and entertainment venues that attracts large crowds from all over the Utah Valley. Provo offers a large selection for lodging with over ten hotels and motels.
The Provo Municipal Airport offers general aviation and is the second busiest public airport in Utah with over 170,000 aircraft operations a year. The airport is mostly used for flight training and is home to flight schools, including one operated by Utah Valley University.
Utah County is located in northern Utah and is surrounded by six other counties of Tooele, Wasatch, Juab, Sanpete, Carbon, and Duchesne. Although Utah County lies about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, the county is not part of the Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area. Rather, Utah County forms the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area, which makes the county a major center of business, culture, education, shopping, and recreation in the state of Utah.
Most of the residential communities of Utah County are located in Utah Valley, an area east of Utah Lake and west of the Wasatch Mountains. This Utah Valley region consists of rapidly growing suburban communities in a scenic environment. The areas west of Utah Lake are mostly rural, but include several growing communities surrounded by Lake Mountains and Oquirrh Mountains. Many of Utah County's communities are located at high altitudes of several thousand feet above sea level. One of the most famous mountains in the county is the beautiful Mount Timpanogos, overlooking many of the suburban communities. Interstate 15 cuts right through the Utah Valley, allowing convenient road access for most of the county's communities locally, as well as up north to Salt Lake City.
Utah County paints the image of a modern and rapidly growing suburban communities, with an array of new homes, parks, schools, recreational facilities, businesses, infrastructures, and much more. The light colored buildings surrounded by green foliage, mountains and Utah Lake create a stunning atmosphere that's present through most of Utah County.
According to the U.S. census of 2000, Utah County has a population of more than 368,000 people, and is rapidly growing. The county has a total area of 2,141 square miles with 143 square miles of water.
Utah County is home to more than 35 total communities, many of them cities and towns, with some unincorporated areas. The county seat is Provo, the largest city in the county and third largest city in Utah with a population of over 117,000 people. Additional large cities in Utah County include Orem, the sixth largest city in the state of Utah with over 84,000 residents.
The most notable geographical feature of Utah County is Utah Lake, largest natural freshwater lake in Utah covering 96,900 total acres right in the middle of the county. Utah Lake is a major recreational area in the county, offering water sports, including boating, sailing, water skiing, and fishing. The main marina for Utah Lake is located in Utah Lake State Park.
